Land Acknowledgment
With gratitude, mutual respect, and a spirit of reciprocity, Little Whispers acknowledges that we live, learn, and grow together on the ancestral and traditional territories of the Treaty 7 signatories. This includes
- Siksika (Six-ih-gah) Nation,
- Piikani (Be-gun-nee) Nation,
- Kainai (Gaa-nah) Nation, and the
- Îethka Stoney Nakoda (Ee-iith-kah Stow-nee Nah-koh-duh) Nations, consisting of the Chiniki (Chin-ih-key), Bearspaw (Bears-paw), and Good Stoney (Good Stow-nee) Bands.
We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina (Sue-tin-ah) Nation, and recognize that the City of Calgary is home to the historic Northwest Métis (May-tea) and the Otipemisiwak (Oh-tay-Pem-soo-wak) Métis Government, Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Nose Hill Métis District 5, and Elbow Métis District 6.
At Little Whispers, we honour the stories, languages, and cultures that shape the land we serve, known traditionally as Wîcîspa (Win-cheese-pah), Guts’ists’i (Goo-tist-see), and Moh’kinstsis (Moh-gihn-s-tis), the gathering place where the Bow and Elbow Rivers meet.
We express our deep respect to all who share, celebrate, and care for this land. We are thankful for the original caretakers and knowledge keepers who remind us of the ongoing histories that precede us. As caregivers and educators, we are committed to walking together in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, fostering understanding, compassion, and unity for future generations.
